Tree Tales
Who are the people that like to visit a "choose and cut" tree farm?
- Some families come and spot the perfect tree immediately, but still want to comb through the rest of the field "just in case", and eventually come back to cut the first tree they saw.
- Then there are those who always insist on having a spruce, only to return from the field with anything but a spruce. But they are so very happy with their tree!
- Others come and spend 10 minutes tops from car to field and back with their tree - no long decisions there!
- But we also have customers who just have to check each tree over - and, of course, they find one they would choose has already been tagged by a previous buyer.
- We have those who come on Thanksgiving Day to tag their tree in preparation for the season.
- Some folks tag two trees: one for this year, one for next year!
- Then there are those who have tagged their tree and upon their return, just cannot seem to find it!! This can be very frustrating, but thankfully there are always more to choose from!
- We also have the “flashlight brigade” - those who come needing to get their tree but it got a little too dark to choose the perfect one, so the heavy duty flashlight is taken on the march for the tree. I just smile, knowing that family traditions are just that important to some.
- Finally, we have the men who are sent out by their wives for their tree... maybe they bring the kids, maybe another buddy. They are on the "hunt" - and usually find within a short time just the right tree.
The funniest customer purchase to date is the following story: A man, sent by his wife, came for his tree; he found one and he was quite happy with himself. A day later, we received a call asking if we had "creatures" living in our trees. I didn’t really understand what he was talking about, but then he said, "Well I need to come over for another tree. My wife made me put this one out on the lawn." I said "Of course!" We think that maybe a mouse had taken up residence in an old bird’s nest and that their "friend" made it all the way to their house and through the set-up of the tree, but later decided to explore. That’s when the little "creature" was spotted. The woman of the house was most dismayed and the tree quickly became a lawn ornament. When he came for the second tree, we inspected it for any "inhabitants" before he took it home.
